The Ladder

|
This is a handicap ladder,
designed to promote play between players of all ranks. It is similar to
a regular ladder, except that your position will be determined by how
strong you are relative to your rank. It allows for rapid promotion, and
you can move up the ladder no matter what your strength. So play lots
of people, see how your rank holds up, and have fun!
|
Rules
|
1) |
Players may play the closest 2 players in either direction who
are present at the club. There is no requirement that people accept
challenges, however (see rule 5).
|
2) |
All games are handicapped based on the current ladder rank of
the players. The maximum handicap is 9 stones.
|
3) |
Games are to be played on a 19x19 board with AGA rules in effect.
Clocks may be used, with a minimum time of 30 minutes each and 5
30-second byo yomi periods. Either player may decide that the basic
time limit be no more than 40 minutes. Games between AGA players
may be reported.
|
4) |
If the lower player loses, the ladder positions do not change.
Should he or she win, the players switch positions if they are within
2 positions on the ladder, otherwise the higher player moves down
1 position and the lower player moves up one.
|
5) |
Players who do not play a ladder game for 3 consecutive club
meetings will be demoted 1 ladder position every meeting thereafter
until they play again.
|
6) |
A player who has played 3 more games against higher players on
the ladder than against lower must play his next game against a
lower player (except for the lowest player present at a meeting.)
|
7) |
After four consecutive wins or losses the player's rank is adjusted
by one stone.
|
8) |
The ladder will not be adjusted during the club meeting, so ranks
and positions will stay constant until the next meeting. To keep
things simple, each person should play only one ladder game per
week. |
